Prof. Deeparghya Mukherjee’s research paper entitled ‘Do Import Tariffs Increase Domestic Production or Value in World Consumption? A Study of Global Value Chain Implications for Selected Sectors’ has been published in the Economic & Political Weekly.
This research explains the key economic factors. Since 2014, India has witnessed a rise in tariffs in multiple sectors. The paper, therefore, explores the responsiveness of imports to tariff hikes for specific tariff lines and further investigates the effect on production, India’s value-added and the nation’s changing nature of participation in the global value chains. It suggests policy directions for the country, considering current geopolitical developments and negotiations in the trade agreements.
