Chairperson’s Message

For centuries, leaders have played a pivotal role in shaping the fate of organizations, societies, and countries around the world. Organizations and societies that are led by effective leaders reach to newer heights, while those led by ineffective leaders, experience crisis and demise. In the current highly competitive, dynamic and volatile business environment, the role of leaders has become more important than ever before. Especially, the recent pandemic, which brought unprecedented challenges, made everyone realize the significance of good leadership even more strongly. There is a widespread realization that leadership has never been more relevant and necessary than now.

Despite the massive demand of good leaders, there is a ‘real crisis in leadership.’ Developing leaders at all levels is essential for organizations to successfully adapt to the fast-changing VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world. Also, it is necessary for leaders or executives to regularly upgrade their skills. Traits or behaviors that helped executives to succeed in in the past may not work well in future. Moving up the hierarchy into new roles or changing environments, executives may find that skills that helped them in the past are not relevant anymore in the current scenario. What were strengths can become weaknesses.

Hence, leaders or executives at all levels of organizations and across sectors are under tremendous pressure to push harder and acquire new skills. Leaders can stay relevant and succeed in these changing times if they regularly upgrade their skills. For organizations that aspire to succeed and take an edge over others, it is essential to develop leadership skills among all organizational members. Organizations cannot be led to success only by one or two leaders who occupy pivotal roles, but people from each level in the organization have to be involved in the leadership process. The success of an organization often depends upon the ability of the organization to nurture and develop leadership capacity among its employees.

The centre for leadership development at IIM Nagpur is founded with the goal of helping people from diverse sectors to enhance their leadership capabilities. The centre aims to promote leadership scholarship, practice, and development by creating, disseminating, and applying knowledge. We welcome you to join us in the noble endeavor of developing leaders and to help in shaping the future of the country, and the world.
