Professor Arun Kumar Rath is an Adjunct Professor in the Strategy and Entrepreneurship Area at IIM Nagpur. Prior to this, Dr. Rath was associated with IIM Trichy as Adjunct Professor. Dr. Rath worked as Professor and Dean at IMI New Delhi/Bhubaneswar and also as Chairman, Centre of Excellence in Corporate Governance & Social Responsibility at IMI New Delhi. Prof. Rath worked as Dean & Chairman, Public Policy and Governance at MDI Gurgaon. Before joining MDI Gurgaon, Dr. Rath served as a member of the IAS in the central and state governments in key assignments including Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary Govt. of India and has made significant contributions to Indian administration and corporate governance. Dr. Rath has more than three decades of experience in administration and academics.

Dr. Rath has published number of research articles in the areas of corporate governance, CSR and sustainability. He has published a book “Towards Better Corporate Governance: Independent Directors in the Boardroom”. He authored two unique books “Antarctica Diary and Other Travel Stories” in English and Odia. Dr. Rath’s teaching interests include corporate governance, business ethics, CSR and sustainability. He has taught these course in PGDM, PGDHRM, PGDBFS and PGDM (Executive) and PGDM (Public Policy) programmes at MDI and IMI. He has done consultancy assignments with Dept. of Public Enterprises, Govt. of India. Dr. Rath has trained over 200 CEOs and Directors of companies in the Directors’ Conclave and Directors’ Retreats. He trained over 500 international executives/officials of over hundred countries in the International India Techno Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programmes sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India. Dr. Rath also conducted number of middle and senior level MDPs and trained over 6000 executives of companies and departments of central and state governments.

As Director in the Boards of SAIL, NMDC, MECON and Vizag Steel and as Independent Director in the Boards of Coad India, MCL and Mangalore Refinery, Dr. Rath contributed to better performance of the blue chip PSUs.

Dr. Rath travelled widely around the world and attended management courses in the University of Birmingham and University of Bradford, UK. He represented India in number of international conferences including in the United Nations in New York.
Dr. Rath received the Odisha Living Legend Award in 2013 and D.Litt honoris causa in 2017 for his contribution to corporate governance and education. He was also recipient of “Fellow of the World Academy of Productivity Science” Montreal in February 2020 for his significant contribution.

Dr. Rath is Distinguished Fellow of Institute of Directors and Fellow of All India Management Association, New Delhi.
