The Indo-Japan Research Center (IJRC) at IIM Nagpur recently organized an event on March 03, 2023, to celebrate ‘Hinamatsuri’, a traditional Japanese festival that marks the arrival of spring and prays for the continued health and happiness of female children. The event was a resounding success, attracting participants across the city.

The IIM Nagpur campus was transformed into a beautiful fragment of the land of the rising sun for this occasion. The organizers decorated the campus with Torii gates, Sakura (cherry blossoms), and Tsuru (paper cranes), setting the ambiance right and giving attendees a taste of a typical Japanese Matsuri (festival).

The event featured workshops on various aspects of Japanese culture, including chopstick usage, calligraphy, and tea ceremony. These workshops were a hit, with attendees eager to learn about traditional Japanese customs and etiquette.

For those feeling playful, traditional Japanese games such as Kendama and Daruma Otoshi were available for all to enjoy. Attendees also got to try on Yukatas and Kimonos – the beautiful traditional Japanese dresses.

The experience was truly immersive, and many attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture. The event was topped off with a captivating cosplay performance. The performers donned intricate costumes and brought characters from popular Japanese anime and manga to life, creating an incredible atmosphere that captivated the audience.

Speaking about the event, the organizers expressed their delight at the turnout and the enthusiastic response from attendees.

The Hinamatsuri event was a celebration of the rich cultural exchange between India and Japan and a testament to the power of community and shared experiences. Attendees left the event with a newfound appreciation for Japanese culture and a desire to learn more.
