IIM Nagpur was honored to host Shri Sujan R. Chinoy, Director General, Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi, and India’s Ambassador to Japan and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (2015-2018) for a talk with Prof Deeparghya Mukherjee, Economics Area, IIM Nagpur.

The session was organized by the Indo-Japan Research Center (IJRC), IIM Nagpur, on the topic “India – Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership with Specific Focus on Economic Cooperation.”
The speakers shed light on the role of the current economic situations in shaping the two countries’ relations. They focused on Japan’s decoupling to realign its dependencies across countries. The talk gave insights into India and Japan’s similarities in terms of languages, musical instruments, and fondness of cuisines, leading to deep roots in the alliance.

The session ended with an interaction with the audience. Shri Chinoy highlighted how the Japanese take pride in their green environment, and related how the customary dedication of a tree by IIM Nagpur to an ambassador is a moment of pride for Japan.

We thank Shri Chinoy and Prof Deeparghya for the insightful session.
