Nagpur , May 10, 2024 | On the eve of the 8th Annual Convocation ceremony, IIM Nagpur held a pre-Convocation ceremony that witnessed the passing out students and the Faculty reminiscing about the two years of the students’ stay on campus, their activities, and achievements. As a part of the Institute’s fund initiatives, leading banks of the country – Bank of Baroda, Central Bank of India, and State Bank of India, came forward to sponsor Academic awards to the students who have shown excellence in Scholastic and Co-scholastic activities during the two-year MBA programme.
To confer these awards, the Regional Heads of the Sponsoring organizations were invited to the pre-Convocation ceremony.
- The Bank of Baroda conferred awards in the following categories:
‘Best in Academics Award’ to Sahil Agrawal with a cash prize of Rs.31000/-, ‘Best Sportsperson Award’ to Harshit Misurya with a cash prize of Rs.31000/-, and ‘Best All-Rounder Award’ to Shweta Suresh Rana with a cash prize of Rs.31000/-.
Mr. Brijesh Mishra, Regional Head, Bank of Baroda, spoke on this occasion and urged that the students approach his bank as their own and explore a variety of banking schemes that they can avail of. The bank values the merits and aspirations of IIM Nagpur students, and the awards in different categories are their testament.
- The Central Bank of India has established an award for the students excelling in the Area of Finance for a period of Five years.
For 2024 – the ‘Award for Excellence in Finance Area’ was given to Abhishek Avinash Punde, with a cash prize of Rs.50000/-.
Mr. Dharmendra Kumar, Regional Head of Central Bank of India, said that IIM Nagpur’s exceptional learning environment is perfect for a deserving student who wants to mark a place in life. ‘This bank is always there to fulfill the financial needs of hardworking, focused, and goal-oriented students seeking to grow.’ He thanked IIM Nagpur Director, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, for allowing his bank to recognize and award the talents.
- The State Bank of India conferred award in the following category:
‘Excellence in Decision Sciences & Information Systems (Business Analytics) Area’ which was given to Darsh Kumar Singh, with a cash prize of Rs.50000/-.
The Regional Manager – Nagpur West of State Bank of India, Mrutyunjay Panda, said during the pre-Convocation ceremony that there is hardly any financial hurdle if somebody is determined to grow. He felt happy that IIM Nagpur has been propagating Industry-Academia connectivity for better exposure to students.
Dr. Metri welcomed the bank officials and emphasized in his address ‘how financial constraints hardly matter if someone is ambitious and seeks to grow with commitment.’ He advised the students, winning sponsored awards and cash prizes, that their awards inspire future potential students seeking to make a place in their lives. Thanking the bank officials for encouraging IIM Nagpur students with cash prizes, Dr. Metri said that India is a land of opportunities and banks ease the financial needs of those determined to do something different.
The bank officials thanked the Institute Leadership for forging an association between the Institute and their banks.
