Dr Bhimaraya Metri (Director, IIM Nagpur) shared his thoughts on Multidisciplinary Education at the National Webinar on Multidisciplinary and Holistic Education organized by the UGC to mark one year of Transformative Reforms under the National Education Policy 2020.
In his address, Dr Metri highlighted that Multidisciplinary Education is the future – making students well-rounded individuals and attractive employees, thanks to the rich world-view that they develop. He emphasized that an education in the liberal arts allows people to think broadly and strategically, which is an important trait for leaders and innovators in a constantly changing world. He concluded by pointing out that communication skills, problem-solving competency, and the ability to work in a team are the most valuable skills that recruiters seek in students, and the higher education curriculum must respond to these needs.
The welcome address at the session was given by Prof. D.P. Singh, Chairman , UGC, while Dr Subhas Sarkar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Education delivered the inaugural speech.
