IIM Nagpur recently hosted Mr. Rahul Roushan for a guest session on ‘Challenges faced by traditional media and the impact of digital media on it’. It was organized by Nexus, the PR and Media Cell of IIM Nagpur as a part of the Spotlight Series.
The session started with discussing the evolution of media through the ages – from the era even before the first printing press, journalism has grown slowly, but gradually, to its present form. He further talked about the ancient business models, the role of media as the sole platform for spreading information at that time and how broadcast technology was invented and popularized. Moving forward, he discussed the arrival of the Internet and its impact on traditional media. He also deliberated on the commercial and platform-related challenges faced by journalists today. He concluded the talk by establishing that the technology is still evolving every day and there is a possibility of replicating various other digital ideas into journalism.
