Nagpur, May 11, 2024 | The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM Nagpur) celebrated its 8th Convocation conferring degrees to the MBA Batch 2022-24 and the Executive MBA Nagpur Batch 2021-23 students in a grand event graced by distinguished guests and the IIM Nagpur family.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of MBA and Executive MBA students, accompanied by the Convocation Chief Guest, the Chairman, the Board of Governors, the Director and the Faculties, with a huge applause from the audience. Mr. CP Gurnani, former MD & CEO of TechMahindra and Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Nagpur, officially declared the convocation open, marking the beginning of a day filled with pride and achievement.
A symbolic invocation took place as the ceremonial lamp was lit by Mr. Gurnani, accompanied by IIM Nagpur Director Dr. Bhimaraya Metri and the Convocation Chief Guest Dr. Anand Deshpande, Founder, Chairman & MD of Persistent Systems. Dr. Deshpande was honoured with IIM Nagpur memento, symbolizing the Institution’s appreciation for his contributions.
Mr. Gurnani delivered an inspiring opening speech, acknowledging the significance of Mother’s Day and reflecting on IIM Nagpur’s journey over the past 8 years. He highlighted the institution’s growth, particularly the expansion of the IIM Nagpur MIHAN Campus, promising enhanced facilities. Mr. Gurnani emphasized the importance of teamwork and seizing every moment to achieve one’s dreams.
Following Mr. Gurnani’s address, Dr. Metri presented the annual report, showcasing the Institution’s progress across various fronts including placements, faculty achievements and scholarships.
The highlight of the ceremony was the conferring of degrees to the Executive MBA and the MBA students. Outstanding achievers were honoured with Gold Medals, including Mr. Swapnil Motghare of Executive MBA Nagpur Batch 2021-23 for his Scholastic Achievement, Mr. Pranjal Shrivastava of MBA Batch 2022-24 for his Scholastic Achievement as well and Ms. Shivani Nayak of MBA Batch 2022-24 for her All-Round Performance. The atmosphere was filled with pride and joy as these exemplary students received their well-deserved awards.
The event culminated with a thought-provoking speech by Dr. Deshpande, who shared insights on career planning and the evolving landscape of professional life. Dr. Deshpande eloquently stated, “I’m delighted to be here in Nagpur, especially as my wife hails from this vibrant city.” He commended Nagpur’s transformation into an educational hub and advised graduates to make strategic career decisions in their mid-forties, emphasizing the long-term impact of these choices. Dr. Deshpande encouraged graduates to become job creators and underscored the importance of continuous learning, effective networking, expertise development and managing expectations in one’s career journey.
Mr. Gurnani concluded the convocation by declaring the event closed, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, symbolizing unity and pride.
The 8th Convocation of IIM Nagpur stands as a testament to academic excellence, leadership and the bright future that lies ahead for its graduates as they step into the professional world armed with knowledge, skills and determination.
