IIM Nagpur Hosts Utkarsh 7.0: HR Beyond Boundaries in the Age of AI and AutomationAug 25, 2025

Nagpur, August 23, 2025, | The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur successfully hosted the seventh edition of its flagship HR conclave, Utkarsh 7.0, on the theme “HR Beyond Boundaries in the Age of AI & Automation – Innovating Work, Workforce & Workplace.” The event brought together 21 eminent HR leaders, academicians, and industry experts to deliberate on how artificial intelligence and automation are reshaping the future of human resources.

Over the years, Utkarsh has evolved into a premier platform for engaging discussions on emerging HR trends, attracting participants from across the country. This year’s conclave focused on how AI is not just a technological transformation but a cultural shift influencing work dynamics, workforce capabilities, and workplace designs.

The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Ji Mewar, the 77th Custodian of the House of Mewar and Chairman of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation, along with Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, and distinguished dignitaries Shri Ashok Tewari, Joint President of the Birla Group, and Mr. Mussarat Hussain, HR Head at Suzuki R&D. The occasion was also graced by senior faculty members, including Prof. Prashant Gupta (Dean – Faculty & Academics), Prof. Alok Kumar Singh (Dean – Executive Education), Prof. Shailendra Nigam (Chairperson – Career Development Services), Prof. Prakash Awasthy (Chairperson – MBA) and other faculty members.

Chief Guest Dr. Lakshyaraj Singh Ji Mewar emphasized the importance of humanity and humility as the foundation of leadership, irrespective of technological advancements. He highlighted that while AI can augment processes, it cannot replace the emotional depth, compassion, and human connection that define meaningful work and relationships. His message underscored that in the pursuit of automation, human values must remain at the core of progress.

Welcoming the guests, Prof. Bhimaraya Metri shared the Institute’s remarkable journey since its inception in 2015. He highlighted the rapid growth of IIM Nagpur, which now stands among the fastest-growing IIMs with a strong industry interface and global collaborations. He spoke about pioneering programs like Cybersecurity Management, Blockchain, Advanced Healthcare Management, and upcoming initiatives in Energy Management and Executive Education. He emphasised that in the era of AI, HR must embrace technology while fostering empathy and ethical decision-making. “AI has entered every sector, but human intelligence and emotional quotient will define sustainable growth,” he said.

Shri Ashok Tewari offered a thought-provoking perspective on AI integration. “Artificial Intelligence is mind-made, whereas natural intelligence is nature-made. AI will enhance efficiency, but it can never replicate the human brain with its creativity, emotions, and instinct,” he remarked. He stressed the need for HR leaders to focus on ethics, fairness, and inclusivity while leveraging technology.

Mr. Mussarat Hussain shared how technology and human synergy drive innovation in manufacturing. “Today, we roll out a car every 12 seconds, thanks to automation combined with human expertise. The future of work will be defined by adaptability and lifelong learning,” he said. He also pointed out that, beyond technology, humility and human values remain the most critical attributes for HR professionals.

Prof. Prashant Gupta traced IIM Nagpur’s growth from 55 students in 2015 to around 725 today, highlighting the launch of executive programs, the Pune campus, and a unique blended Executive MBA model that alternates classes between Nagpur and Pune to provide flexibility for working professionals.

Prof. Alok Kumar Singh spoke about IIM Nagpur’s leadership in executive education through programs in cybersecurity, blockchain, and other domains, completing 94 customised programs in three and a half years and training over 3,500 executives from leading public and private organisations.

The conclave concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rahul Chaturvedi (In-charge, Career Development Services Office), who appreciated the efforts of all speakers, panellists, and participants for making Utkarsh 7.0 a success.
