Inaugural Ceremony | January 27, 2026
The Bharat Darshan Rural Immersion Programme for the students of IIM Nagpur was formally inaugurated on January 27, 2026 at the Institute campus. The ceremony was graced by Shri Vinayak Mahamuni, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Nagpur, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, he highlighted the transformative potential of grassroots engagement in shaping socially responsible managers and urged them to view rural India not merely as a development challenge but as a landscape of opportunity, innovation and resilience.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, who emphasised the importance of experiential learning in management education. He encouraged students to approach the immersion with curiosity, humility and analytical rigour. Dr. Prashant Gupta, Dean (Faculty, Academics & Alumni Affairs), also addressed the gathering, outlining the academic objectives of the initiative and its role in helping students connect classroom frameworks with real-world complexities. The inaugural event set a reflective and purposeful tone for the outreach journey that followed.
First Outreach Phase | January 31, 2026
Learning Beyond Classrooms
The first phase of Bharat Darshan commenced on January 31, when more than 300 students, accompanied by faculty mentors, travelled in eight groups to diverse rural enterprises and community institutions across the Nagpur region. Each group was assigned a specific organisation, enabling students to undertake focused observation and meaningful engagement rather than brief exposure visits.
During this phase, students interacted closely with farmers’ producer organisations, self-help groups, agri-entrepreneurs, educational institutions and sustainability-driven enterprises. They studied operational processes, supply chain linkages, cost structures, marketing approaches and community participation models. The visits provided insights into collective farming practices, organic cultivation, rural skill development initiatives, eco-conservation efforts and traditional art-based livelihoods.
Beyond observation, the immersion encouraged students to critically analyse business challenges such as limited digital outreach, fragmented branding strategies, constrained access to capital and dependence on narrow market channels. At the same time, they recognised strong local knowledge systems, community cohesion and entrepreneurial determination as significant strengths. The first outreach phase thus became a powerful platform for experiential learning, enabling students to contextualise management theories within the socio-economic realities of rural India while preparing them for solution-oriented engagement in the subsequent phase.
Second Outreach Phase | February 28, 2026
From Insights to Impact
The second phase of Bharat Darshan was conducted on February 28, when student teams revisited the same organisations to present structured recommendations developed through rigorous post-visit analysis. Over the intervening weeks, students had systematically examined field observations, mapped operational gaps, evaluated financial viability and explored growth pathways under faculty guidance.
Returning as informed contributors rather than first-time observers, the students shared tailored proposals aimed at strengthening enterprise sustainability and market competitiveness. Their suggestions included improving procurement planning, enhancing product packaging and branding, leveraging digital marketing platforms, diversifying revenue streams and optimising resource utilisation. The presentations evolved into meaningful two-way discussions, with entrepreneurs offering practical perspectives on implementation challenges such as capital constraints, regulatory processes and workforce limitations.
This concluding engagement helped students appreciate the nuanced balance between strategic ambition and on-ground feasibility. It also reinforced the importance of empathy, adaptability and collaborative problem-solving in driving inclusive growth. By completing the cycle from immersion to analysis and from insight to actionable recommendation, the February 28 outreach marked the culmination of a deeply enriching learning journey, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to socially relevant and practice-oriented management education.
