
A one-day National Conference on “Philosopher Queen Devi Ahilyabai Holkar” is set to take place on May 25, 2025, at IIM Nagpur, commemorating the 300th birth anniversary of one of India’s most revered rulers. Organized in hybrid mode, the event will delve into the life, leadership, and legacy of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, the iconic Queen of Malwa.
Born on May 31, 1725, Ahilyabai Holkar is celebrated as a visionary administrator and a spiritual stalwart whose governance model brought peace, prosperity, and social harmony to her kingdom. The conference will reflect on her contributions to nation-building, temple restoration, public welfare, and environmental sustainability, all of which continue to inspire modern governance and leadership.
Breaking societal norms of her time, Ahilyabai Holkar led with wisdom, courage, and compassion, redefining the role of women in power. Her initiatives in developing religious and civic infrastructure — including the redevelopment of over 1,000 temples, construction of ghats, roads, and dharmshalas — positioned her as a pioneering figure in India’s socio-cultural renaissance. Her economic policies, rooted in justice and fair taxation, not only uplifted her people but also attracted entrepreneurial activities.
