Predixion – The Analytics Club of IIM Nagpur was privileged to host Mr Abubakar Siddeeqh, Vice President of Portfolio Analytics and Research division at Moody’s Analytics for a guest session. The topic of the session was to provide insights into portfolio analytics and technological changes in the industry.

The session started by understanding what analytics is really about and how it has evolved over the years. We learnt how businesses are adapting to the change and using data to drive their businesses operations and management. Different types of analytics were discussed, namely prescriptive, descriptive and predictive analytics. We got some examples about how analytics is making processes in fields of healthcare, traffic management, eCommerce etc. more efficient.

Then, the session moved on to discuss blockchain technology and how it is making the banking process more efficient, secure and cheaper. Real estate is one of the areas where blockchain will do wonders in the future. Delving deeper, we learnt about bond and portfolio analytics, performance management and investment risks. In the future, technology will take the driver’s seat and help us in taking better investment decisions and reduce risks.

Mr Siddeeqh talked about how various tools such as SAS, R, Python, and Hadoop can help businesses in getting analytical and meaningful insights from raw data. We got to know about an advanced ML based tool named R. that has been designed by Moody’s, which has automated the rule matching process.

Concluding everything we learnt that data analytics will reduce human intervention in business processes and make processes more efficient. It is one of the most lucrative career options in the future.
