FIM Organization: Winjit Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Nashik
As part of the FIM we worked with the Atal Incubation Centre at Winjit Technologies Nashik, on how to scale or organize the seed bank initiative of the rural community, driving this initiative in different pockets of Maharashtra. To identify the problem and provide a holistic solution, we travelled to remote parts of Maharashtra to research the condition of farmers doing natural, zero-budget farming, about how community seed banks are being managed, and how we could create an enterprise to connect farmers and seed banks with the market. After meeting community leaders at the helm of these efforts, we identified problems and recommended solutions on how to scale the idea of community seed-banks by developing kitchen garden kits of indigenous seeds, how to increase awareness by campaigns and community knowledge sharing, and how to support the seed savers through network of farmers. It was an enriching experience that I might not have had the chance to participate in the usual course of things.

FIM Organization: Sanjeev Auto, Aurangabad
The FIM at IIM Nagpur gives us the distinct opportunity to apply classroom learning in real-life scenarios at organizations between our 2nd and 3rd terms. As part of the three-week module we got the opportunity to apply the concepts taught in Organizational Behaviour, Strategy, Operations, and Analytics to solve the critical problems faced by the organizations. It gave us hands-on experience in consulting work - we identified organizational problems, and recommended ways to solve those along with an implementation plan. This project exposed me to the culture, and the challenges faced by the MSMEs and NGOs, widening my perspective after my previous background of working with an MNC.

FIM Organization: ZIM Labs, Kalmeshwar, Nagpur
I learnt about the nuances of the pharmaceutical sector and I also got a chance to interact with, and learn from the senior management at ZIM Labs. The management gave me an interesting problem statement to solve: to find bottlenecks that could occur in the ERP implementation across the organization. We conducted a gap analysis and applied various management frameworks to arrive at our recommendations. The learning was immense and I am definitely considering pharma consulting as a career choice.

FIM Organization: Anandwan, Warora
Anandwan is a community rehabilitation centre that welcomes leprosy patients and the disabled from the marginalized sections of the society. It is rightly called the Forest of Happiness as one will experience exuberance and positivity all around. Anandwan gave me a living example of ‘Creative Humanism’ demonstrating the way economic principles are beautifully applied for the empowerment of the last man rationally. Spending time with this community made me realize that the smile on the happy faces fetches you more return than any investment. It was a great learning experience in such an organization where the social aspect plays a larger role. Thanks, Anandwan. It was wonderful to be a part of you!

The Field Immersion Module is a unique experience offered by IIM Nagpur. It provides a perfect blend of real-time understanding of problems faced by SMEs and the government sector along with the continuous mentoring by the in-house faculty members. It has helped me develop a comprehensive managerial perspective, observational precision as well as problem identification and solving skills. The immersion provides a unique experience of understanding the problems at a granular level and the short duration pushes us to come up with innovative & implementable solutions on our feet. In the organization I worked, the continuous mentoring from Mr Anoop Kumar, then Divisional Commissioner - Nagpur, was a memorable experience.

Before IIM Nagpur, I had the opportunity to work for an IT MNC with a swanky set-up and had the privilege to understand the culture followed in the organization interacting with clients from across the globe. But it was very important as an individual to widen my horizon and the Field Immersion Module at IIMN offered me just that. I had the privilege to work for a government organization - Nagpur Police. In any society, the Law Enforcement department is responsible for any interrogation. Through the FIM at Nagpur Police, I had the opportunity to be in the driver's seat for a period of two weeks - all thanks to Primary Research. Although short, the module gives you a brief understanding of the organization at many levels and helps to grow as an individual, not just in terms of technical skills but more importantly, people skills.

FIM Organization: Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, Wardha
My experience at Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was so enriching where we could closely interact with internal and external stakeholders and understand how they are bringing an improvement in livelihood of people in more than 700 districts of Wardha. Though the short duration of the FIM doesn’t allow us to thoroughly understand the intricacies of each and every aspect in the organisation, it certainly enables us to appreciate how their objectives pan out in the larger scheme of things, which is a great learning.
My experience at Kamalnayan Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was so enriching where we could closely interact with internal and external stakeholders and understand how they are bringing an improvement in livelihood of people in more than 700 districts of Wardha. FIM Organization: MSSDS, Nagpur
The FIM was like a practical session soon after our classroom sessions, that gave us an opportunity to use the recently acquired skillset, in identifying and solving the managerial problems of an organization. My FIM with MSSDS helped me in understanding the way a government organization functions, the field visits to various ITIs helped me understand the ground level issues which usually don’t reach the officials in higher managerial roles. Root cause analysis, trying to arrive at solutions in situations where there is no quantitative data available for the issues we are dealing with, evaluating the possible solutions and their outcomes, to recommend the best solution considering various parameters and stakeholders involved, were a few important learnings. These learnings have helped me in my career at a Central Government PSU, to deal with the daily challenges which involved numerous stakeholders and citizens at large. Exposure to different domains during the FIM, helped me handle various projects related to different domains simultaneously and efficiently.

Goethe said, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply.” The Field Immersion Module, which was brilliantly executed under the able leadership of Dr. Shivaji Dhawad, was the brainchild of Prof. Ashish Nanda - the then-Director of IIM Nagpur’s mentor institute - IIM Ahmedabad. While classroom taught us hundreds of simulations to face the real world problems, it was the FIM which actually provided the ground to test them in real life situations. It was a good precursor to train our minds for the 2 months’ summer internship at the end of the first year. In my FIM at Ankur seeds Pvt. Ltd, I also learnt one of the secrets of management - along with knowing the best solution to the problem at hand, an MBA grad should also be adept at dealing with people, conversing with them and convincing them to take that solution from presentations to reality. FIM was indeed a unique experience of life at IIMN and boosted my self-confidence significantly.
